I ran a 'Wowfactor' competition and Ellen was the winner of the children's category with Castle of Shadows (then named Castle of Cards). I was immediately struck by the pace and adventure of the story and the vividness of the characters, so I passed her through to Rosemary Canter at United Agents (previously at PFD). Ellen's 'Wowfactor' prize was a free report and she was also keen to come on a Cornerstones workshop. Soon after, Orchard Books offered a two-book deal; Ellen's latest novel is City of Thieves.
