'Thanks to Cornerstones I was able to leap off the slush pile and into the arms of an agent and a major publishing deal
with a single bound!'
Sarwat Chadda, The Devil’s Kiss, Disney Hyperion & Puffin
Sarwat originally came to us for a report, and then a brainstorm session with three plot ideas, which together we put into one: a Young Adult, kick-ass adventure horror, The Devil's Kiss. Much revision and a workshop later it was ready to submit to some agents. While they admired his work no one was jumping to represent him which is the main thing we look for when matching an author with an agent. I then suggested he entered the SBCWI, Undiscovered Voices anthology, which he won, along with seven other of our authors out of the 12.
On the judging panel was Sarah Davies, of Greenbouse Literary Agency, and by then he had other agent interest. I suggested he went with Sarah because she was starting a new list that spanned the US and UK (reflected in his awe-inspiring deal with Disney Hyperion and Puffin), she's formidable in her publishing experience and a great editor. Sarwat's latest book is Dark Goddess and I think there's even talk of a film deal.
'Cornerstones have helped so many writers take their first steps.'
